Peter DiSylvester played an important role in the growth of TruWest Credit Union and the credit union movement. He began his tenure with TruWest in November of 1973 when we were still MECU-West. During his 23-plus years of leadership, he helped increase assets and membership, and expand our reach from two to 13 branches between Austin, Texas and Tempe, Arizona.
Some of his notable accomplishments at the credit union include:
Along with his commitment to helping us grow, he also helped support credit union growth throughout the nation. He was a member of the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES) since 1968 and was the first member to serve as president of two CUES Councils. Through 1997 he served as Chairman of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), Vice Chairman of Corporate Credit Union of Arizona, and he was a Board Member of the Arizona Credit Union League, the World Council of Credit Unions, and Electronic Data Systems Credit Union Advisory Association.
Peter DiSylvester’s dedication did not stop with the credit union movement. He strongly believed in the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and encouraged his staff to become involved in community service. To this day TruWest Credit Union supports many local charities including the Children’s Miracle Network, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Junior Achievement, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and more.
In honor of Peter DiSylvester’s commitment to “people helping people” and spreading the TruDifference in our communities, the DiSylvester Memorial Scholarship was introduced in 2005. He believed in the value of educating our younger members about finances and helping them get on the right path to a bright financial future.
